Maths, further maths, biology – possibly physics or chemistry to help round out the science. But human behaviour is also important so perhaps (human) geography would be helpful as well.

Maths (including stats) and biology are the most important.

More importantly, what do you like to learn/study?

Biology and chemistry are always seen as really important for medical school, but actually the most important thing about my job is being able to communicate clearly with lots of different people (colleagues, patients) so English is really important too. Psychology helps you understand the reasons behind human behaviour, which is another key aspect to understanding your patients.

I think you need to know yourself well. Work out what you enjoy, what gets you enthusiastic and what you think will still keep you interested in years to come. I’ve been a qualified doctor now for nearly 14 years, and retirement is a good 30 years off – no good if you are doing something you find boring!
