I was elected to be a Fellow of the Royal Society https://royalsociety.org/people/christl-donnelly-12859/ – I share that honour with people like Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawking. It’s been very humbling. This was in recognition of my work on several outbreaks, most notably in recent years the Ebola epidemic in West Africa.

So far, I think my biggest achievement is completing my maths degree at Warwick University. I had to work very hard and was very proud of myself when I succeeded.

I’m only at the start of my career and I’m still quite young, so I’m also looking forward to bigger, better future achievements!

Getting my Consultant job at the hospital. I only started in May, so am still finding my feet! It meant that I’d finished all my medical training and can work independently (although I am still part of a team, and don’t work alone, I have to make decisions that are entirely my own responsibility – if it goes wrong, I am the one who has to take the blame). It has been a very long road to get here – I started university in 1997 and there have been lots of postgraduate exams too.
