Yes, when I was at secondary school, I thought I would be a scientist working in genetics. When it came to university application time, I decided to apply to medical school as it opens the door to such a wide range of careers at the end. As it turns out, the branch of medicine that I have ended up working in does involve a lot of genetics, although it is bacterial genetics rather than human that I am usually concerned with!
