      Do you mean living scientists?

      It’s impossible to choose one:

Sir David Cox – statistician extraordinaire. http://magazine.amstat.org/blog/2016/11/01/international-prize-in-statistics-awarded-to-sir-david-cox-for-survival-analysis-model/ I have had the great honour of working closely with him. We wrote a book together:

Hans Rosling, a swedish statistician. One of the clearest and most inspiring speakers I’ve seen (not in person, on Youtube / TED talks – look him up, it’s worth it). He uses data and graphs in such an inspiring way. It is not boring, I promise you.

So many other epidemiologists inspire me, particularly women who are doing well in their jobs. It is nice to have role models at work and someone to aspire to be like.

In particular, at Warwick where I do my PhD I am inspired by Professor Déirdre Hollingsworth. She does lots of interesting work on neglected tropical diseases. These are diseases that affect the poorest populations in the world and that, so far, haven’t received as much research and effort to cure as other diseases. You can read about the work she does here: http://www.ntdmodelling.org/
