Stopping disease spread helps people or animals (sometimes even both!).
It is exciting work – you get to improve human understanding of how our world works.
You can help empower people to decrease the chances of them getting sick and dying of serious infections.

Epidemiologists use a wide range of skills and study many different diseases – from HIV/AIDS to rabies to Chagas disease. How many of those have you heard of?

Hi A.Lee. Infectious diseases kill so many people worldwide. So I think just because of that it is an important thing to work on! Also, it is an enjoyable, interesting, and varied job. I’d definitely recommend it!

Without epidemiologists like Christl, and researchers like Liz and Becky, working on what causes epidemics and recognising their patterns when they start, people like Kevin and me who work directly with patient or public populations to keep them safe from infection wouldn’t know what the right measures to put in place would be.
