Pain exists to protect you. If you didn’t feel pain when you touched a hot surface- you could be severely burnt. Or you might not know if you broke a bone.

There are some people who can’t feel pain. One reason for this is genetic: http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/the-people-who-cant-feel-pain-scientists-discover-cause-of-rare-inherited-condition-that-turns-off-10274604.html It is very dangerous not to have pain cues to tell you to touching the hot pan or stop pushing that knife into your hand (the classic avocado injury).
There is a very nice book: https://www.amazon.com/Wouldnt-Want-Live-Without-Pain/dp/0531224414 all about this topic.
