The study of disease. Microbiology (study of microorganisms) is one of the medical pathology specialties. The others are haematology (study of blood disorders), biochemistry, histopathology (looking a body tissues, and how we diagnose cancer for example), cytology (study of cells, so smear tests for cervical cancer for example) and toxicology (poisons and toxins).
