Yes, that would be really interesting. I did a diploma in tropical medicine during my time as a junior doctor and was really excited about the prospect of working abroad in a low income / underresourced setting. Life got in the way for me, and I have a young family here in the UK so am firmly rooted here for now.
I moved from the US to work here in the UK. But you can live in the UK and work on diseases elsewhere – examples from my work. Dengue (Colombia and Vietnam), Zika (Colombia and Brazil), Influenza (USA and globally), MERS (Saudi Arabia), SARS (Hong Kong, China, Taiwan), malaria (lots and lots of countries), polio (there are only a couple of countries left with polio – but there are fewer cases in the last 6 months than ever before in the history of the world – I hope you aren’t too much older when you hear that there is no more polio). Did you know that vaccination already eradicated smallpox?
